Supported activities

A project that foresees activities in one of the following priority areas might obtain financing.

1. Trade and industry development

Development of new products and services.
Cross-boarder networks and business relations.
Expansion of markets.
Examples of activities:
methods for cross-boarder corporate consulting, cooperation between companies in the field of market development and internationalisation, sector and company-specific training programs and joint quality standards, regional cross-boarder initiatives to take advantage from development linked to oil and gas extraction, cooperation between companies and research and development institutions, initiatives to increase the participation of youth in the trade and industry development.

2. Research, development and education

Educational institutes develop cooperation.
Research institutes develop joint research environments within the scope of economy-strengthening research and innovations.
Private and public sector as well as research and educational institutes increase their knowledge of the mechanisms behind entrepreneurship, innovations and successful innovative environments.

Examples of activities: strategic alliances and research platforms, joint research and development projects, new joint training programs, new solutions linked to the use of independent technologies and virtual learning environments in the educational cooperation, exchanges between students, teachers, trainees and research exchanges, new methods and work ethics for teaching entrepreneurship in schools.

3. Regional functionality and identity

Cross-border solutions that facilitate exchange of information and transport options for individuals and goods.
Development of and intensifying the cross-boarder cooperation in the field of services and infrastructure endorsed by the authorities.
Activities that stimulate cultural exchanges and exchanges of experience as well as development of knowledge.

Examples of activities: Development of joint public services and infrastructure, development of various joint structures in bordering municipalities, e.g. in the field of environment (development of methodology and knowledge, joint follow up procedures, inventory, etc), surmounting structural problems that impede free transit of goods and services between the countries, measures to promote a more integrated labour market, small-scale projects that help establish contacts between young people of the region, development of information channels that increase the knowledge about the region among its residents, preservation and development of joint natural and cultural heritage, prevention of environment and technology-related risks (e.g. protection against flooding).

4. Sub-program SÁPMI – borderless development

Cross-boarder networks to develop methodology and products.
Development of joints research and/or educational circles.
Highlighting and/or preservation of the Sami culture.
Examples of activities that can be supported: Stimulation of product, service and methodology development and marketing through establishment of joint mutual forums for commercial entrepreneurs, development of strategic environmental initiatives in line with the needs of the Sami people and Sami knowledge, network-building measures that promote Sami cultural industry and Sami cultural activities, thematic cooperation within e.g. environment, equality, traditional Sami knowledge and other issues concerning indigenous peoples, establishment of networks and cooperation between research institutes, schools, private sector and sector organisations that take into account Sami needs, implementation of joint capacity building initiatives involving Sami, initiatives to promote the development of Sami language, e.g. joint teaching aids, materials, courses, media sources, etc, activities that attract Sami young people and that create meeting places, e.g. youth seminars, youth events, establishment of networks, new information technologies, youth websites, etc.
